Public Health officials release new guidance to allow for personal care services in Solano County – encourage businesses to develop reopening plans

SOLANO COUNTY – On Friday, June 12, the California Department of Public Health released new guidance, giving the Solano County Public Health Officer authority to amend the County's shelter-at-home public health order and directive to allow for personal care services to reopen starting June 19.  Personal care services include facials, electrolysis, waxing, skin care, cosmetology, electrology, nail salons, massage therapy and body art professionals, including tattoo parlors and piercing shops.

"The personal care service industry includes touching a client’s face or skin in most instances, and therefore we need to take the necessary precautions," says Bela T. Matyas, M.D., M.P.H., Solano County Public Health Officer.  “We encourage businesses to start developing their reopening plans right away, giving them time to prepare their employees, facilities and workstations for customers, helping reduce the spread of COVID-19 disease in Solano County.”

Before reopening to the public, personal care service businesses will be required to meet specific COVID-19 guidelines, including establishing a workplace specific plan, training employees and implementing screening and control measures, cleaning and disinfecting protocols, guidelines for social distancing and specific criteria for the type of service being provided.  The state guidance documents can be found by visiting the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) COVID-19 website at www.Covid19.Ca.Gov/Roadmap-Counties.  Business owners are also encouraged to visit the Solano County website to download the required signage, located on the Roadmap to Reopening businesses page at www.SolanoCounty.com/covid19.

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY – Professional Sports without Live Audiences
On Friday, June 5 the California Department of Public Health released state guidance allowing for professional sports in California to resume training and competition without live audiences no sooner than June 12.  To reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission, athletes, coaching, medical and broadcasting staff should adhere to their agreed upon COVID-19 prevention protocols, while back office workers should follow the state’s office workspace guidelines and retail staff should adhere to the state’s retail guidelines.  Solano County health officials amended the stay-at-home order on June 16 to allow for these activities to resume in Solano County immediately if sports facilities are operable, cleaned and regularly disinfected and there is an adequate supply of personal protective equipment for all athletes, coaches, staff and vendors.

As Solano County continues to relax its Stay-at-Home health order, we encourage all residents to continue to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, California Department of Public Health and Solano County Public Health social distancing best practices, including wearing a cloth face mask outside your home whenever physical distancing cannot be maintained, maintaining a physical distance of six-feet from others, practicing coughing and sneezing etiquette, using a hand sanitizer or washing your hands for at least 20 seconds and to stay at home if you’re not feeling well.  Businesses that are permitted to reopen must abide by the social distancing requirements in the County’s and State’s Orders.
