What is AB 48?

Effective January 1, 2022, California Assembly Bill 48 (AB 48) amended Penal Code 16352 to ban the use of kinetic energy projectiles and chemical agents by law enforcement agencies to disperse any assembly, protest, or demonstration, except by officers who have received proper training in their uses to defend against a threat to life or serious bodily injury to any individual (including a peace officer), or to bring an objectively dangerous and unlawful situation safely and effectively under control.

Uses must adhere to certain requirements as defined by AB 48. The Solano County Probation Department is required to report to the DOJ and publish a summary of each qualifying incident within 60 days of the incident.
