Do I need a certificate, permit or license before I can purchase pesticide for use on my own property? Generally, if you purchase pesticides labeled for “home use” you would not need a certificate, permit or license. However, if you own your own business and are spraying pesticides or weed killer in a customer’s yard you will need a license. If you are growing an agricultural crop or commodity (including pasture and rangeland) then you will be required to obtain an Operator Identification Number or Restricted Materials Permit from our office before you purchase and use pesticides. If you are purchasing and applying a California restricted material, you will also need to obtain a Private Applicators Certificate (PAC). A PAC is obtained by taking and passing an examination at our office. Please contact our office for more information on licensing, certification and permitting. The examination is free. You need to make an appointment for the exam. You should plan on getting to the office before 2 PM because the exam may take 2 to 2 ½ hours to take.
Do I need to submit a Pesticide Use Report? Yes, if any pesticide or chemical with an EPA registration number is applied to an agricultural crop or commodity (including pasture and range land) it must be reported to the Agricultural Department for the county in which the property is located. Use reports can be obtained at any County Agricultural Department.

Why can't the District Attorney's Office take all the non-complying check writers to court? Checks are a legal document. As such, they must be complete and the various elements such as signature, address, and other identification must be verifiable. If one or another part of a check is missing or cannot be verified, it becomes difficult or impossible to successfully prosecute the case. That's why it is so important that merchants follow the Guidelines for Handling Checks when they accept any check.
