The mission of Solano County's University of California Cooperative Extension department is to serve County residents through the creation, development and extension of knowledge in agriculture, natural resources, youth development, and family & consumer sciences.

This departmental mission is accomplished by:
  • Assessing community and industry issues and needs.
  • Conducting applied research to address local problems and provide a scientific basis for public policy development.
  • Extending research-based information through a variety of educational programs
 
Department Description and Functionality
 
The University of California Cooperative Extension is your local source for current research-based information from the University of California. It is a partnership of federal, state and county resources. The University of California provides over 300 campus-based specialists and county-based advisors who bring information to local users in a team approach. Meetings, conferences, field days, demonstrations, and localized publications and newsletters are among the many teaching tools used by Cooperative Extension. The CE department is organized regionally to tailor programs for the special needs of people throughout the state. The Solano County staff is available to provide citizens with information from problem-solving research to public education. Advisors can help with questions on a variety of subjects related to agricultural aciences; livestock and natural resources; nutrition, family and consumer sciences; and youth development. In addition, over 300 Solano County citizens volunteer to extned our reach by assisting with 4-H, Master Gardeners, Master Food Preservers, and other programs.
