Birds and otters are one of the many plants, critters and animals livng in the hills, at the water's edge and in the water you will see on the guided tours of Lake Solano Park.

Solano County Parks invites the community to join guided tours of Lake Solano Park throughout the spring, summer and fall. The tours are from 10 a.m. to noon on the second Saturdays and fourth Sundays of each month, starting May 14.

Park volunteer Emerson Kanawi will lead the May 14 tour. He'll take participants on a hike in the hills to a beautiful lookout point, and then along the forest that borders the lake. Participants will learn about Lake Solano’s history – when and how it was created, where its water comes from, and where it goes. They’ll also explore which plants, critters, and animals live in the hills, at the water’s edge, or in the water, and why.

These tours are a great opportunity to have fun, learn, and get healthy exercise. Participants should carry water and snacks on the hike. They should be prepared for variable trail conditions and weather by bringing layered clothes, sturdy closed-toe shoes, and protection from sun, wind, fog, and the chance of rain. A camera and binoculars are also recommended.  After the tour guests can continue to enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife at Lake Solano Park by picnicking for the day, or renting a campsite for the weekend on a first-come, first-served basis.

The hike will begin in the courtyard next to the Lake Solano Park Nature Center at 8685 Pleasants Valley Road Winters, CA.  The hike is free, but parking is $5 per vehicle, payable across the road on the other side of the park.  No RSVP is necessary.  For questions in advance, call (707) 432-0150, Ext. 200 or email [email protected].  For same-day information, call (530) 795-2990.
