$160,000 in total grant funding available for programs and services to address the needs of children; applications due by March 6, 2023

February 2, 2023

SOLANO COUNTY – First 5 Solano has released a request for applications for annual grants with up to $20,000 per grant available to address the needs of children ages 0-5, their parents/caregivers, and/or providers of services to children ages 0-5 in Solano County.

A child’s early years hold the key to their success,” says Erin Hannigan, Solano County District 1 Supervisor and First 5 Solano Commissioner. “Investing in early childhood development means funding programs and innovative strategies for children from birth to age 5 that strengthen families, improve the quality of early learning environments, and promote prevention and early identification of health problems that can impact learning later on.”

The purpose of the annual grants program is to provide an opportunity for the First 5 Solano Commission to consider grant requests that fill community gaps, address a community disparity, or address a time sensitive community need. The funding is also intended to help support the startup of projects and programs that can become sustained in the community.

All projects proposed for the Annual Grants Fund must support First 5 Solano’s mission to promote, support and improve the lives of young children, their families and their communities.

A total of $160,000 is available for July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024. The limit per annual grant is $20,000. Non-profit, and for-profit agencies are eligible to apply. A Letter of Intent (LOI) must be submitted by February 10th, 2023. Applicants who submit a LOI will be invited to attend Mandatory Grant Development sessions February 13-24, 2023. Full applications are due no later than March 6, 2023 by 5 p.m.

This is the sixth year that the Commission has allocated funding toward this effort and has successfully supported programs in the community to provide the critical resources that families of young children need in order to grow, learn and thrive.
