| Clinic History
In October 1918, the Solano County Board of Supervisors opened the Solano County Public Hospital on West Texas Street in Fairfield. The facility was a full service 50 bed hospital that offered surgical and emergency rooms, laboratory, radiology, long term care, and outpatient primary care. Staffing included twelve to fifteen full time medical doctors and thirty to forty nursing and ancillary staff. The facility cared for Solano County?s indigents, Medi-Cal recipients, and prisoners from the County jail. The County Hospital closed in June 1973.
Although the hospital closed, the outpatient primary care clinics continued to operate and see patients five days a week, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday until the County purchased the new facility at 2101 Courage Drive in Fairfield. The new Fairfield Medical Clinic opened its doors in 1996.The Vallejo Medical Clinic opened in the early 1980's. | | Meet Our Staff | Both the Vallejo and Fairfield facilities have adult primary care doctors and pediatricians who are responsible for comprehensive medical care for our patients. Our Behavioral Health Specialists assist us in caring for patients who have behavioral barriers that prevent them from maintaining their physical health. We have Family Nurse Practitioners and a Physician's Assistant who specialize in women's and teen health. There are registered nurses who provide triage, injections, education and disease management. Our Medical Assistants provide assistance to the doctors such as taking vital signs, rooming patients, referring of patients to specialty providers, minor phlebotomy, assisting with procedures and appointment scheduling. FHS has a Clinical Laboratory Scientist who is responsible for blood draw and basic microbiology testing. FHS has many more services and excellent providers.
