August- Early Literacy

Read to your child every day to develop a love of learning!

Early literacy, which is reading and writing, is closely linked to a child’s earliest experiences with books. Before children turn three early literacy skills are already forming. Reading and rereading books is a good way for your child to exercise these skills. You can also exercise early literacy skills during your regular activities by pointing out new words or asking your child questions. Ask then what an object is or have them explain something to you. Try to schedule in planned reading as well to establish habits around reading. Show your children that reading and writing is fun and enjoyable!
