Child Support Services to donate 100 back to school ready backpacks, complete with supplies, to benefit Foster and Homeless Youth Services

August 2, 2022

SOLANO COUNTY – The Solano County Department of Child Support Services (DCSS), in recognition of Child Support Awareness Month, will donate 100 back to school ready backpacks, complete with supplies, to the Solano County Office of Education (SCOE) Foster and Homeless Youth Services program.  The backpacks are intended to help support children and their families in kindergarten through fifth grade as they return to school this fall.

“We know that back to school is a big deal for students and their families,” says Liane Peck, Director of Solano County Child Support Services.  “Our goal in donating these backpacks is to help children start off the school year with all the essentials they may need – which can do wonders for the learning process.”

The backpacks will come with several essential school supplies, including crayons, rulers, pencils, pencil sharpeners, pocket folders, spiral notebooks, scissors and glue sticks.  A gift card from Wal-Mart will also be included so children and their families can purchase anything else they may need.

“We are so appreciative of this donation,” says Akon Walker, Program Coordinator, Educational Liaison of Solano County Office of Education, Foster and Homeless Youth Services. “Partnerships like these bring our community together to support the academic success and wellbeing of our Solano students and families.”

SCOE Foster and Homeless Youth Services will work with school districts and partner agencies to directly distribute the backpacks and school supplies to children in foster care, and to children who are experiencing homelessness.
