Gubernatorial recall election date announced; Solano County ROV preparing to send out voting materials

July 2, 2021

SOLANO COUNTY – On July 1, the California Lieutenant Governor announced the date of the California Gubernatorial recall election to be September 14, 2021.

“Having the date set for the election puts many things in motion for our office, including preparing to mail voting materials to more than 264,000 registered voters in Solano County,” said Tim Flanagan, Solano County Chief Information Officer and Registrar of Voters.  “Our goal is to provide voting opportunities that are familiar to all voters and similar to past elections.”

All Solano County registered voters will be mailed a ballot starting August 9.  Voters will have opportunities to return their ballot either by mail, at 16 drop-off locations throughout the county, or in-person on election day at approximately 100 polling places.

Recall ballots have two parts. In the first part, voters would have the option to vote “yes” or “no” to the question of whether to remove the Governor from office. In the second part, the voter would have an opportunity to select a replacement candidate.  It is important to note that votes for a successor candidate would only be counted if more than 50 percent of voters casting ballots in the recall election vote to recall the Governor.

Anyone wishing to be on the ballot as a replacement candidate can pick up forms to file Signatures in lieu of the filing fee starting today, July 2 at the Registrar of Voters Office, located at 675 Texas St, Suite 2600 in Fairfield.  Additionally, nomination documents will be available starting July 9.

Additional key election dates include:

n
August 9 – Ballots and Voter Guides start being mailed to voters
n  August 16 – Early In-person voting begins / ballot drop-off sites are available
n  August 30 – Last day to register to vote for the election
n  September 14 – Election Day

The Registrar will have extended office hours to include Saturday, July 3 and 10 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. to provide additional options for voters wishing to file candidate forms, and September 11 to provide additional voting days to voters.  For more information call (707) 784-6675, email [email protected] or visit us online at www.SolanoCounty.com/Elections.
