As of July 1, 2023, the total population of Solano County is 446,763.
Solano County experienced steady population growth during the 10-year time span from 2010 - 2020. The population decreased between 2020 - 2021 but has since remained relatively unchanged. The population estimates graphed below are from the California Department of Finance’s population estimates as of July 1 of the applicable year.
Solano County is very diverse, with nearly two-thirds of the population identifying as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color).
Below is a breakdown of the Solano County population by age group. There are fewer residents within the age categories on either end of the scale; the vast majority of residents fall between the ages of 5-74. However, the county is seeing a general shift toward the older population. As of 2023, approximately 18% of the population is age 65 or older, but this is expected to grow to about 26% by 2070.
Below is an age pyramid further broken down by sex. Each age group has relatively equal subpopulations of males and females, although there are generally more females than males from age 60 and up. Vallejo is the most populous city in Solano County, followed by Fairfield and Vacaville. In combination, the populations of these three cities comprise approximately 75% of the entire county population.
In Solano County, less than one-third of adults over the age of 25 (29.1%) have a Bachelor’s degree or higher. This is approximately 8% lower than the statewide estimate (37.5%).
Broken down by race and ethnicity, Solano County residents identifying as Asian have the highest proportion of individuals with a bachelor’s degree or higher (41.8%), followed by White residents (31.2%), Black residents (27.0%), and those identifying as multiple race (26.6%).
The diversity of Solano County is reflected in the variety of languages spoken at home. Approximately one-third of households speak a language other than English. Here, limited English speaking households and non-limited English speaking households were collapsed under the same language category. Therefore, the data below shows a mix of limited and non-limited English-speaking households.
The median income among Solano County households is $100,027 annually. This is several thousand dollars higher than the median income statewide ($95,521).
