Third-graders to gather for Annual Ag Day on March 19

March 2, 2013

About 3,000 third graders from throughout Solano County are expected to discend on the Solano County Fairgrounds for the 11th annual Youth Ag Day  from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 19.

This unique event is presented each year to allow third-grade classrooms from throughout the county the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of a diverse range of agricultural activities and exhibits in a fun and exciting format.

Youth Ag Day is a collaboration of the Solano County Fair Association, the Solano County Department of Agriculture and the Solano County 4-H and Future Farmers of America.

Each pupil attending Youth Ag Day will receive a ticket for a free child admission to the Solano County Fair, July 31 through Aug. 4. This year’s theme is “Home Grown Fun.”

The Youth Ag Day event is free to the students; however, donations are needed to help offset the nearly $500 cost for each bus to transport the children.  For more information on how to donate, email
AgDay@SCFair.org or call 707-551-2002.

In addition, residents may volunteer to greet arriving classes, help with registration, direct classroom groups at learning stations, guide students through exhibit buildings or help the organizations with their presentations.

In related news, the Solano County Fair has announced three of its five musical acts for the upcoming 2013 Solano County Fair, running from July 31 to Aug. 4.

WAR, the eclectic '70s band, will perform Aug. 1, followed by R&B legends The Spinners on Aug. 2 with soul superstars Tower of Power taking the stage Aug. 3. The acts for July 31 and Aug. 4 will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

The concerts are free with the price of admission, with tickets ranging from $4 to $10.
