“Picture yourself” at the County exhibit at CA State Fair

July 15, 2019

SOLANO COUNTY– For the past 17 years the Solano County exhibit has taken home some of the top awards at the California State Fair, and this year did not disappoint.  Now in its eighteenth year, Solano County continued its winning streak, taking home the Gold Award for Best Video Presentation and an honorable mention for the Best Professional Build Award.

The Solano County exhibit, entitled "Picture Yourself in Solano County," encompasses the County's rich agricultural history, complete with the many products and services the County produces.  The exhibit uses a unique mix of sound, lighting, photos and video to showcase all that Solano County has to offer to those who live and work here and to those who choose to visit the area.

Visitors are encouraged to take selfies in front of the exhibits many unique features, including a cherry red 1960 International Harvester 340 Utility tractor.  The tractor, on loan from Joe McKim, a farmer in Dixon, is still used to this day to cut hay, pull a bailer and disc the ground on his 160-acre ranch.  Not surprisingly, the tractor is also featured in many family photos – serving as a beautiful centerpiece – and as a unique reminder of Solano County’s rich agricultural history.

Highlights of the exhibit also include Solano’s many outdoor recreation gems, rich agricultural crops, local industries, including Travis Air Force Base, popular tourist attractions, local wineries and breweries, olive oil, the art and entertainment scene and dining hot spots in the Counties seven cities.

As is the tradition for Solano County, the exhibit integrates a unique learning environment with fun and friendly volunteers.  Visitors can pick up educational brochures to help them learn more about the County in which they live, or plan a future vacation.  Also, be sure to get your FREE samples from Jelly Belly.

Visitors to the Solano County exhibit are encouraged to add the hashtag #SolanoCounty to their selfies when posting to Facebook and Instagram.  The posts to social media help drive attendance to the exhibit and spread the word about all the wonderful things Solano County has to offer residents, tourists, outdoor enthusiasts, wine and beer aficionados and everyone who spends time in Solano County.

This year the California State Fair runs through July 28 at Cal Expo in Sacramento.
