County receives two transportation project awards

November 16, 2018

SOLANO COUNTY – The Solano County Department of Resource Management, Public Works division, was awarded the Project Delivery and Agency of the Year awards by the Solano Transportation Authority (STA) at its annual transportation award ceremony on Wednesday in Suisun City.

The award ceremony, now in its twenty-first year, recognizes and celebrates local agencies for their significant contributions to the community, including programs, activities and projects that improve mobility, travel safety and economic vitality for everyone who lives, works and plays in Solano County.

"I was very pleased when Solano County was selected for these two awards," says Jim Spering, District 3 Supervisor and representative to the STA board.  "I've seen firsthand the hard work and dedication of our Public Works staff to deliver projects on time and on budget so it’s nice to see them get this well-deserved recognition.  The Agency of the Year is about collaboration and Solano County sets the model for working cooperatively and well with multiple agencies to get the job done."

Solano County received the Project Delivery award for its ability to deliver multiple transportation projects in a timely manner, including 46 road repair projects totaling $2.8 million over the past year, ensuring the quality of roads in unincorporated areas of Solano County remains high.  These transportation safety improvement projects, including adding guardrails, signage and road striping, were all completed on time and will continue to serve the interest of residents and visitors for years to come.

Solano County also received the prestigious Agency of the Year award for its overall performance as an STA partner agency.  Over the past year, the County has consistently been a model partner through its successful collaboration with STA and local member agencies, including the cities of Dixon and Rio Vista, the Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District and Solano Land Trust.  The County was recognized and awarded for its coordination and delivery of multiple transportation improvement projects with multiple stakeholders throughout multiple jurisdictions – which are often the most challenging to coordinate.

"I would like to recognize and thank the Resource Management department and all of their dedicated employees for their efforts,” says John M. Vasquez, District 4 Supervisor and Chair of the Board.  “Their commitment to maintaining high-quality roads and infrastructure ensures the public is safe when traveling our roadways.”

The County has been an active partner with the Solano Transportation Authority and other member agencies for the past twenty-one years and through this rich partnership received multiple transportation related awards for road and safety improvements completed throughout the County.
