County seeks applicants for newly established Napa / Solano Area Agency on Aging oversight board

November 15, 2018

SOLANO COUNTY – The Solano County Board of Supervisors is currently accepting applications for appointment to the newly created Napa / Solano Area Agency on Aging (AAA) oversight board, now through November 26, 2018.  The AAA is charged with helping older adults find employment, supporting older and disabled individuals to live independently, promoting healthy aging and providing assistance to family members in their vital care giving role.

The Napa / Solano Area Agency on Aging will consist of a total of seven voting members from Solano and Napa Counties.  Applicants from Solano County will be selected based on the following qualifications:

- One (1) member from the senior community, age 60 or older

- One (1) alternate member from the senior community, age 60 or older, who attends and votes at meetings in the primary member's absence

- One (1) At-Large member.  This primary member will alternate voting with the Napa County At-Large member on an annual basis

- One (1) alternate At-Large member.  This member attends and votes (alternating annually) at meetings in the primary member’s absence

The California Department of Aging has designated Solano County as the lead agency for the new AAA.  The AAA will operate under a Joint Exercise of Powers Agreement between Napa and Solano Counties.  Oversight board members play a critical role in the health and wellbeing of seniors by providing advice and recommendations to the AAA Executive Director, County staff, AAA Advisory Council and the County Boards of Supervisors.  Members will also receive monthly status reports from AAA staff, the AAA Advisory Council and approve provider contracts.

The first meeting of the AAA oversight board is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 3 p.m. in the Solano County Administration Center, located in the first-floor Board Chambers at 675 Texas Street in Fairfield.
