|Executive Management|Lesli M. Caldwell, Solano County Public Defender since 2010, attended the University of Santa Clara, receiving her J.D. in 1979. Ms. Caldwell received her B.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. Ms. Caldwell was a Deputy Public Defender in Contra Costa County for 27 years and joined the Solano Public Defender’s Office as a Chief Deputy in 2007. Her specialty area of practice has been Mental Health. Ms. Caldwell is active in the California Public Defenders’ Association, California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National Legal Aid and Defense Attorneys Association as well as the American Council of Chief Defenders.
Roberto Nájera, is Chief Deputy Public Defender of the Alternate Public Defender’s Office. Mr. Nájera served as the interim Chief from March 2013 to June 2013 when he was hired permanently to this position. He graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1979 with a B.A. in Sociology and graduated from Harvard Law School with a J.D. in 1982. Mr. Nájera had worked for various legal aid offices in the greater bay area until 1989 when he joined the Office of the Public Defender in Contra Costa California as a trial deputy primarily representing adults charged with felony offenses in all stages of litigation. He was a Deputy Public Defender for 20 years in Contra Costa County and spent the last ten years in Contra Costa with the Alternate Defender’s Office as a senior trial lawyer. Mr. Nájera currently supervises a staff of twenty dedicated public defenders, investigators and support staff in both the Fairfield and Vallejo offices of the Alternate Public Defender.
