World Environment Day at Lake Solano
Departments - Resource Management - Parks
Location: Lake Solano
8685 Pleasants Valley Rd, Winters, CA, 95694

World Environment Day is an event that mobilizes local and global communities to focus on specific environmental issues. We welcome you to join us this year at Lake Solano for our 9th year of protecting Solano County's drinking water. This year we will have additional activities for the whole family!

· Naturalist Kayak Tour of Lake Solano. Lake Berryessa water makes it's way down Putah Creek and is accessible at Lake Solano for recreation. Bring your own non-motorized boat or enjoy a free kayak rental and tour at the event. Designated tour times are listed on the registration and are required. Space is limited.

· Wildflower Seed ‘Bar’. Volunteers can select wildflower seed varieties to make a Do-It-Yourself seed packet which can be planted in the late fall to boost wildflower populations for bees and other insects. Volunteers will be encouraged to make extra for Solano RCD to distribute all across the county.

· Wildflower Seed Sprinkling. Volunteers can spread wildflower seeds on Beetle Point Hill and rake them into the soil. This is great fun for all the children that attend!

· Plant Propagation. Volunteers can bring reusable plant containers or plastic soda bottles to grow sedges or forbs. You'll need to water your plants over the summer months and plant them in the late fall.

· 2020 Calendar Coloring Station. Open to all participants, kids and adults alike. Draw, sketch, write anything you like and have your creation go into a contest to be centered in the WED CALENDAR for 2020. The focus should be on water or something related to World Environment Day. All entries will be reviewed and 12 will be selected for our 2020 electronic calendar.

· Bilgee Meet & Greet. The Protector of Clean Waterways, Bilgee, will be available for photos and help share important tips about how to keep Lake Berryessa clean and green.

· Trash Cleanup. Volunteers will mobilize at Lake Solano and head out to three locations – Markley Cove Pullouts, Lake Solano group campsite (for children) or under the bridge in Winters. Cleanups will last for approximately 1.5 hours.
